Frequently Asked Questions

What is a weighted grade?

A weighted grade gives different components different importance. For example, if homework counts 20%, midterm 30%, and final exam 50%, a perfect homework score matters less than a strong final exam score. The weighted average reflects the true impact of each component on your final grade.

What if weights don't add up to 100%?

This calculator automatically normalizes weights — you can enter any weights (20, 30, 50 or just 2, 3, 5) and the result will be correctly proportional. The formula divides by the sum of all weights, so the scale you use doesn't matter.

How do I find what I need on my final exam?

Use the "Final Exam Needed" mode. Enter your current grade, the weight of the final exam, and your target grade. The calculator solves for the required final exam score. If the result exceeds 100%, achieving your target grade is mathematically impossible with the final exam alone.
